Sweetened Rum

Here we recommend rums that have been sweetened with the addition of aged sugar syrup, sweet wines or other sweetening agents to round off the rum’s flavour. Europe allows a maximum of 20grms of sugar per litre of alcohol to be added to rum.

The Diamond Distillery on the banks of the Demerara river in Guyana is world famous for their timeless distillery. With their collection of rare stills including 3 rare wooden stills, they can make a variety of rums ranging from very light to full bodied. The El Dorado 15 is a true 15-year-old thus has been laid down in oak barrels for at least 15 years then artfully blended using the Enmore and Diamond Coffey Stills, the Port Mourant Double Wooden Pot Still and the Versailles Single Wooden Pot Still.

Serving Suggestions: A classic full bodied “dessert” rum, perfect neat, as a digestif or in a classic “after dinner” drink such as an old fashion. Try warming a brandy glass and serving this rum neat with a twist of orange peel after a big meal.

Tasting Notes

Full nose packed with dark coffee, candied orange, almonds, dark chocolate, pepper and rich vanilla. Hints of candied orange peel, allspice, cinnamon, dried fruit and golden syrup. Beautifully rounded palate with a great spread of flavours: grilled tropical fruit with smooth woody spice, dried fruit, with interweaving layers of honey, gingerbread and toasty oak. – silky, vibrant and moderately full-bodied. A long finish of sweet sherry, honey and Caribbean spice with brown sugar.
